2010 Census Jobs!

woman applying for census

The 2010 Census  is just around the corner and the census bureau will be hiring thousands of people to help with the effort!  Here’s what you need to know:

What is the Census?
Every ten years the United States Census Bureau does its best to count every person living in the U.S. The results help to decide how you are represented in the federal government and how federal money is spent in your community. The U.S. Census Bureau sends out a form to every home in America asking simple questions about age, race and number of people living in a household. The families that do not fill out the form are visited by a census worker.

What Jobs are Available?
The Census Bureau is hiring thousands of census workers to go door-to-door gathering basic information from people. There will also be a handful of regional office jobs in certain cities.

How Much Can I Make?
The Census Bureau offers competitive wages and may reimburse you for mileage and related expenses. In 2000, most census workers earned about $10 per hour.

Part Time or Full Time?
Most census workers will work 20 to 40 hours per week. Census takers are expected to work when people are home, such as evenings and weekends. These jobs can last for weeks or months.

What Qualifications do I Need?
You need to be in good physical condition because you will have to do a good amount of walking and climbing steps. The census is especially looking for bilingual speakers.

How Do I Apply?
You can apply by calling 1-866-861-2010 (toll free) or by visiting the U.S. Census hiring page.
